All users must be valid VVRC Vaca-Valley Radio Controllers members*.

Compliance with AMA and FAA safety rules are mandatory.

General Safety

  1. Limited to radio-controlled R/C Aircraft and R/C ground vehicles.

    • Gas turbine flight is allowed seasonally when the vegetation is damp.

    • Electric-powered aircraft shall only be armed in the pit area. No arming in the working (covered area).

  2. Aircraft that use internal combustion engines must be properly muffled. Acceptable noise level standards apply.

  3. Flight operations are discontinued during Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR), i.e., Travis air shows and dignitary movement, such as Presidential visits as dictated by FAA Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs).

  4. FAA airspace and AMA safety rules apply to all airborne operations.

  5. Members may be accompanied by guests. The member is responsible for their guest conduct and safety.

  6. Guests' vehicles may use the onsite parking area. Members may only use pit parking areas.

  7. All users are responsible for the field's condition and cleanliness, avoiding littering.

  8. No vehicles on or across the paved runway or grassy areas.

  9. Use roads responsibly and exercise caution to minimize wear and tear, especially during inclement weather. Avoid driving on muddy or wet surfaces if possible.

    • *Invited by a host member, transient pilots with valid AMA membership cards are limited to three flying visits.

    •  Prohibited items at VVRC are alcohol, firearms of any kind, and illegal drugs of any kind. Violation may result in membership termination.

Safety Rules

  1. FAA and AMA safety rules and regulations always apply. A 400-foot ceiling is currently in place at VVRC’s FRIA. (FAA Recognized Identification Area).

  2. Be vigilant for dangers to spectators, children, animals, and less experienced pilots.

  3. Give way to full-scale aircraft.

  4. No flying over the pit area, flight line, access road, parking areas, and spectator areas. Use designated flight zones only. Posted at VVRC site.

  5. Perform aircraft inspection for condition and control functions before each flight.

  6. Stay clear of all propellers. Make any adjustments to the mixture from a position behind the propeller. Remain clear of the front of a running engine/motor and the propeller’s plane of rotation.

  7. Exercise caution with highly flammable fuel; keep containers closed, wipe spills, and do not smoke during fueling. No smoking in covered or pit areas.

  8. Do not fly unless visibility and wind conditions are satisfactory for safe flying.

Flight Operation Rules

  1. Exercise courtesy, consideration, and good judgment; flying must align with safe and reasonable practices. Prioritize safety in all flight operations.

  2. Pilots must stand a safe distance from the runway. One pilot and one observer are allowed per aircraft beyond the pit fence.

  3. Flight line courtesy includes appropriate warnings to other pilots. Communicate effectively using standardized warnings, i.e.: “Landing”, Taking Off”, “Man on the runway”, “Runway clear”, etc.

  4. No one on the runway during flight operations except those involved in retrieving downed aircraft.

  5. Flight operations may be conducted within the over-fly airspace above and surrounding the field. Respect designated flight zones and airspace boundaries.

  6. High-speed passes over the runway and touch-and-go landings are allowed without endangerment or interference with other pilots or aircraft.

  7. Property and personal damage/injury incurred by a pilot is their responsibility.

Radio Systems

  1. Radio systems and operating frequencies are controlled per FCC and AMA rules. Follow FCC and AMA guidelines for radio systems.

  2. Range check is required before the first flight of a new or repaired airplane.

  3. If controls glitch, jitter, or buzz, turn the radio off and correct the problem before flying. Respond promptly to any control irregularities. Address and resolve issues before flight.
